What I've been wondering is why Bethesda has not chosen to contract a third-party studio to develop a Fallout spin-off like Obsidian did with New Vegas.
Remember, the reason New Vegas exists in the first place is because Bethesda wanted to hold fans over after Fallout 3 during the seven-year development of Fallout 4. As of today, it's been ten years since Fallout 4 released. Development of Fallout 5 is most likely barely underway, and it probably won't be until 2030 or possibly later until it comes out since The Elder Scrolls 6 is coming next, likely in some three to four years.
So I don't understand why Bethesda refuses to hire another developer to work on a spin-off to hold us over. I get that Fallout 76 kind of serves this role, but it's still a controversial game with a significant number of lore and gameplay elements that continue to divide fans, and most people would prefer a new singleplayer game anyways.
I honestly think that Bethesda is jealous of New Vegas. I don't think that they "hate" it or want to sabotage its favor among fans, like certain overzealous fans claim they do. But I think they are certainly envious of its success and its status as the most popular game in the series, and I think they are well aware of people unfavorably comparing their games to it.
I think that the real primary reason is that they want full control over the continued expansion of the lore and the setting, but a strong secondary reason is that they don't want to hire another studio and be outshined again. It's also totally possible that New Vegas was a one-off thing, so even if Bethesda found themselves in a similar set of circumstances to the ones that lead them to contract New Vegas' development in the first place, they might not want to do it again.
