I mean, I really enjoy Interplay's Fallout, because it reminds me of Dungeons and Dragons, but post-apocalyptic and sci-fi. I haven't played 3 or NV yet, though.
My biggest issue with Fallout 4 is that the story is actually one of the saddest in the Fallout series, but the game doesn't use that or display that. The game doesn't feel sad. It's almost like "Here, your partner is dead, and your son is missing!" but then it just forgets about it. I do think the sadness of the story should have been more prevalent, it would have made the game better in my opinion.
