I like to hope there's heart in him, but if he actually tried to back himself up with reasoning he'd honestly sound par with the Enclave. I think there's something about the Westcoast Elders worshiping him as some sort of messiah of the Brotherhood but he states he doesn't accept nor appreciate those views. Though ironically, he leads the Brotherhood through holy crusades to eradicate almost anything that's not themselves, pushing a supremacist agenda. Correct me if I'm wrong but perhaps it's because he takes to the Codex too literally? Having memorized it as a child maybe he thought he had to follow in his family's footsteps and hold himself up to the same expectations of Roger?
