Yes yes Primm ok ok got it head south of Goodsprings and not north cause north sucks what does Primm have in store for me some quests? I need to find a good and quick way to level up. But thank you both!

^Leveling up is best done through quests, so I'd recommend going through the first few main quests and locating a couple of side quests afterward.

Yeah New Vegas doesn't really pull any punches when it comes to level scaling and some of the most dangerous areas in the base game are just a little while north of your starting location. At early stages in the game it's best to limit your exploration to the areas south of Goodsprings, following the main story markers for the quest "They Went That-a-way" is a good idea when you're learning the ropes.

In general I advise anyone new to New Vegas that they should talk to NPCs and listen to whatever they have to say, even the ones that have an exaggerated sense of how dangerous an area is can communicate a kind of "vibe" about said area. For example one character you meet early on called Trudy provides this colourful quote about the area North of Goodsprings: "That whole area's overrun with the kind of critters that just get mad if you shoot 'em. Merchants avoid that whole stretch of I-15 like it's radioactive. Which it could be for all I know." taken with a pinch of salt, it's good advice- most people avoid that area and unless you're tougher than most people you probably should too. You no doubt got a sense of this from the guy who accosted you at Quarry Junction; if someone says an area's dangerous they mean it.

Going north from Goodsprings is the shortest way to Vegas but also extremely deadly because it's infested with deathclaws and cazadores. It's better to follow the path that the main quest leads you, south towards Primm, then the Mojave Outpost, Nipton, Novac, Boulder City, etc. before eventually arriving in Vegas. It takes longer but you can do a lot of quests along the way and get better weapons and armor, and even some companions.

It sounds like you made it to Sloan, like others said, head south, then east, then north in a big U shape to get to Vegas.

Other things to be aware of is your weapon condition, so you can turn 2 crappy varmint rifles into one slightly better one, depending on your repair skill.

Put your skill points into what you deem to be important. Repair: fixing weapons to have higher damage. Sneak: remaining undetected around enemies. Barter: better prices with vendors, etc.

In my opinion, the survival skill is pointless for most peoples first play through. Good ones to focus on are speech, lockpick, science, sneak, guns.

All this depends on your play style but take the above as a generalisation.

In Fallout 4, it straight up tells you that the further south you go, the more dangerous it gets. The same can be said for New Vegas only in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, only NPCs will tell you that in this game.

That being said, enemies don’t level with you like they do in Fallout 4. This is intentional and a means of adding a linear element to an open world game; controlling you route of progression.

It is not impossible to take the most direct route to New Vegas, just extremely difficult. Not to mention, you’ll miss out on many important events in Primm, Novac, etc.

Only level 4? We gotta change that.

I would recommend going to Primm to pick up a cool companion to help you out. But before you do, you need to collect certain items (that I will look up really quick and list here) just in case you don't have the right amount of Skill for a skill check.

Once you're done, travel south from Primm until you can see two things in the horizon: a dusty desert to the left, and a pre-war police station to the right. The station has a couple of easy raider-type enemies and a couple of little bugs. Go there first, clear it out.

THEN go to the other side of the street into the desert, there is a race track filled with kinda easy Ants. Clear that place out.

EDIT:

List "1 scrap electronics, 3 scrap metals, and 2 sensor modules. This can be easily obtained from Lone Wolf Radio close to Primm." I forgot to mention that the companion will be in a small building where a man is leaning against. Also, their will be other raider-type enemies in Primm and also in the big casino there.

I also forgot to say that while you're exploring Primm, you'll come across a quest that will give you a marker to a place called Mojave Outpost? if you do what I say about going to the police station, keep walking that road. It will lead you to there.

So follow that road, but do it will walking towards the right of it. Soon, you'll see some a couple of ghouls spread out in the area. It will be a little difficult at first but that's where your companion will come in and help. After that, you should see a small gas station with a couple of bigger, but easy bugs to kill. And then after THAT should be Mojave Outpost. Talk to people, do what they ask. And then just continue the story, however you want.
