I'm assuming by the level of 72, that you're playing fallout 76. I'd say just do the main quests or team up with other players to get an xp boost for events.

F4 or 76?

If it’s F4, wash rinse and repeat quests for the Minutemen and clearing hostile locations.

If it’s 76, wash rinse and repeat locations with supermutants. Some public events, like Radiation Rumble, are a must. Usually the seasonal/temporary events give solid xp as well.

Well, since "clearing" a location is a mechanic in Fallout 4 i'm assuming that instead of 76 it is well... the former. If you haven't completed the main quest then complete it, if you're really bored and want to install mods for quests and stuff. If you don't get bored easily just grind minutemen quests where you kill raiders or any other enemy.

That makes sense, probably is F4.

Clearing means youve cleared the area of enemys though they will respawn after a while and the best way to level up is to build in setlements get a lot of wood and just start building fences

I mean, the only reason you'd need to level up is if you were in 76. Level 72 is well past any quest locks in 4, and not physically possible in any other game.
