Yeah, either of those work for that character design. And neither are unique to the other's playthrough; you can be a member of both factions regardless of which you choose.

Overall, however, I do feel that taking the Minutemen with you to destroy the Institute is the better option.

I’d say Railroad. Your character sounds similar to Deacon.

If you're a bit of a jerk but with a good heart, the Minutemen and BoS are both good options, the BoS being a bit more morally grey. I think the Railroad is a good option as well.

Jerk? Institute or brotherhood. They both have good goals, but are also the jerk factions.

Sounds to me like Bos. You’d fit in well with Maxson and Co.

MM is an ideological blank slate it's usually the best option if you're not sure.
