Heyho, I know that I'm very late to the party, but I will just spill sum beans here on the internet.
So first of all, Fallout 4 IS and WILL BE a Roleplaying Game. Because RPGs are, like the name says, Games where you can play a certain role. It's mainly focused on the main character and the story around him. It doesn't have to be a unique character that you have created from hair to toe, this genre just says that the story is being told by slipping into the shoes of someone in that world and greatly controlling how they behave. The Witcher is an RPG, Skyrim is an RPG, Gothic is an RPG... You see my point.
In the Fallout Fandom whatsoever many people think they have the right to decide which is a "true RPG" like FNV or F3 and a handfull of other games and which isn't. Fallout 4 does focus way heavier on gameplay mechanics, graphics and cineastic staging, which are perks of Action-Shooters (I give them that). But the core game is still an RPG and thats because it's all about the WAY to the end, like it was in F3 and FNV, like it was in Skyim and like it is in every good Open-World-Action-FPS-RPG if you want a somewhat right label for it.
Now, I have some things to say where I actually am agreeing with the vast Fallout Fandom. The main story of Fallout 4 is bs and maybe the worst Bethesda has ever written. It's not SHIT shit, but it is still shit. But like I said, that just does not matter in any way. Nobody plays Skyrim for the main quest and to be honst, nobody does that in New Vegas or Fallout 3 either. And the little things on the way, the stories of farmers, murderers, doctors, robots, bandits, soldiers and ghouls, the hidden loot, the written lore... That's the treasure a RPGamer should be looking for. And now, to be honest, I never had that in New Vegas. I never played it till the end. And I never played Fallout 3 (I will, sheesh, I know...). But Fallout 4 really is a fun game, with lovable (and hatable, much like in real life) characters, some interesting quests and decent gameplay. New Vegas is the far superior Roleplay, but the far inferior Gameplay / Gunplay.
So, in conclusion, people do not like change. And if you waited so long for a new game of your favourite series and it turns out having changed SO much, you wouldn't like that either, maybe. Just as I literally hate the "new" Minecraft, with crazy stuff like two hands and gliders... (Two hands, I mean wtf, thats way too complicated)
But just as a reminder, Fallout started being a turn-based RPG, which most of you guys never played (including me). And thats okay. Things changed. You had your F3 and FNV, new players have Fallout 4 and the really old and wrinkled have the first and second game.
Bye.
